당당한 국가들은 자국 시민들이 느끼는 초자연적 현상에 대한 욕구 일체를 통제하려 들지 않는다. 시진핑은 왜 그렇게 독립적인 종교들에 대해 우려를 하고 있는 것일까?

신장(新疆) 자치구에서는 수없이 많은 모스크가 폐쇄되거나 비(非)종교 장소로 개조됐으며 일부 무슬림은 가족 전부가 구치소에 구류됐다.

신장(新疆) 자치구 스허쯔(石河子)시 당국은 모스크를 폐쇄시키고 일부 건물은 종교적 표식이 없는 일반 합숙소 형태로 전환했다.스허쯔시 정보원에 의하면 지역 정부에서는 소수의 모스크를 제외한 나머지 모스크를 모두 폐쇄할 것을 명령했다.
