중국의 지하교회 천주교 성직자 중 일부는 교황청과 중국간의 협약이 오히려 지하 천주교 신자들에 대한 박해를 악화시켰으며, 교회가 살아남을 희망이 전혀 없는 것으로 보고있다.
2018년 4월 17일, 허난(河南)성 궁이(鞏義)시에 있던 성당이 중국 공산당에 의해 강제 철거되었다. 성당의 지하 시설 또한 철거되었다.
아시아 가톨릭 뉴스(UCANews) 보도에 따르면 홍콩 정의 평화 위원회는 5월 29일 허베이(河北)성 쉬안화(宣化) 교구의 추이 타이 부교구장의 석방을 요구하는 성명서를 냈다.
